Steph Marziano (Sound Technology, 2013) has been named as Writer-Producer of the Year at the Music Producers Guild (MPG) Awards.
The Music Producers Guild is run and supported by producers, mixers, recording engineers, re-mixers and programmers who are passionate about all aspects of making and recording music. Now in its 18th year, the MPG Awards celebrate the best of UK music production talent.
Steph's award follows a GRAMMY nomination earlier this year for Parachute – a Hayley Williams track she co-wrote and co-produced.
We caught up with Steph after the ceremony.
What does it mean to win the Writer-Producer Award?
It’s such an honour to be celebrated by my peers. It makes years of long hours in studios worth it!
What's your proudest professional moment from last year and why?
Being nominated for a Grammy was truly life changing but my favourite moment of the last year has was joining Hayley Williams on stage to perform our song Parachute together. Seeing the crowd react to something that meant so much to me was one of the biggest joys of my life.
What's your favourite memory from studying Sound Technology at LIPA?
So many to choose from! Endless studio nights recording drums. The main thing that sticks out to me is how much the Sound Tech lecturers truly cared about the students. I couldn't have got that experience anywhere else. I feel so lucky to have been trained and looked after at LIPA. That kind of commitment is so special and rare.
LIPA’s Jon Thornton received the Special Recognition Award at the ceremony. Jon joined LIPA in 1996 and devised the Sound Technology programme. Steph says seeing Jon get the award was one of her favourite parts of the night, "he had such a huge impact on my life."
