The Eurovision Song Contest being hosted in Liverpool this year, on behalf of Ukraine, gave students at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) a once in a lifetime opportunity to play a vital role in delivering a huge global event.
Around 150 students and graduates helped to deliver the grand finals (watched by a TV audience of over 160m) and the two-week city-wide festival and celebrations. This included Dance, Management, Music, Theatre & Performance Technology (TPT) and Sound Technology students.
Adannae Okeke is a first year TPT student and was one of five lighting interns working on the event. Adannae described it as, “an insane opportunity - and life changing. It was an intense three weeks but I didn’t want it to end. It’s broadened my mindset of what’s out there and avenues I’d never even considered. I’ve met people I’d never normally meet and been able to network with them.”
To celebrate the work of our students and graduates we’ve created a dedicated Eurovision page. It includes quotes from our students, photos and a breakdown of each course's involvement. You read more here.
