What happens after I have applied?

Step 1: Assessing your application and invitation to interview

We’ll review your application and if we think you are on course to meet our educational entry requirements, we'll invite you to interview. In-person interviews will take place in Liverpool, while overseas applicants will be invited to a virtual interview.

Step 2: Recording and interviews

Prior to your interview, we will ask you to submit a recording of your sound production work. Listening to and discussing this piece will be an important part of your interview.

Information about preparing this recording, as well as what to expect at in-person interviews, is provided in the document below. If you are attending a virtual interview, we will email you with the appropriate guidelines.

Step 3: Communicating our decision

We aim to let you know a decision within ten working days of your interview. Unfortunately, it can take longer than this sometimes, so please do not assume that you have been unsuccessful if you have not heard from us – it may be that we are still making decisions.

If you have any questions about the status of your application, you are welcome to contact our admissions team at admissions@lipa.ac.uk (for applicants within the UK) or international@lipa.ac.uk (for applicants outside the UK).

Our decision will be final. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we receive, we are unable to offer feedback if you are unsuccessful. In many cases, a lack of success is due to the level of competition for places, rather than a specific personal weakness.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many courses can I apply to?

On your UCAS form, you can apply for up to five choices. You are welcome to apply for more than one degree course here but this will count as another one of your five choices. You can also apply to a Foundation Certificate course at the same time that you apply to a degree course here. This won't count as a UCAS choice and shouldn't be included on your UCAS form. If you are an international student, you can apply directly to us for more than one course.

How much does it cost to apply via UCAS?

The fee for applying through UCAS for 2025 entry is £28.50. This is a one-off application fee and applicants can add five choices to their application.

Is there any support with travel costs to attend the interview?

We offer a travel grant scheme for UK applicants who come from areas where participation in Higher Education is traditionally low. This is based on postcode data, so all eligible candidates, who we wish to invite to an interview will be automatically offered the travel grant (if applicable).

What happens if I miss the deadline for applying?

There is a high demand for places, so if you miss the deadline for your course, please contact our Admissions team at admissions@lipa.ac.uk. If you are an international student you are not bound by the UCAS deadline and we will be happy to consider your direct application after this date, please contact international@lipa.ac.uk for more information.

Can I defer entry?

We do not accept applications for deferred entry. However, there are exceptional circumstances when we will consider this, such as cases of compulsory military service for international students.

I have a learning difficulty or disability, will this affect my application?

We value diversity and will welcome your application. If you would like to request a reasonable adjustment as part of the audition/interview process, please contact the Admissions Manager to discuss this. Email admissions@lipa.ac.uk or call +44 (0)151 330 3084.

What are the course codes to use on my UCAS application?

The code number for our Sound Technology degree is HW63. LIPA’s institution number is L48.
