What happens next?

Step 1: our assessment of your application

We’ll review your application and if we think you are on course to meet our educational entry requirements, we'll invite you to attend an audition, which is made up of two parts. If you live in the UK, this will be in Liverpool. For those of you invited to attend your first stage audition here at LIPA, you may be asked to attend a recall audition on the same day.

Overseas applicants are welcome to audition in person or virtually. In person overseas auditions are expected to take place in Hong Kong, Norway and the USA. If you are from one of these countries, or in close proximity to one, you will first be invited to submit a self-tape, after which you may be invited to attend one of these events. International applicants may also audition in person in Liverpool. Alternatively, If invited to a virtual audition, the first stage will be a self-tape submission. You may be asked to attend a live virtual recall, which will be scheduled at a later date.

At all stages of the audition process we may consider you for any of the following undergraduate Acting courses:

  • BA (Hons) Acting (Musical Theatre)
  • BA (Hons) Acting (Musicianship)
  • CertHE Foundation Acting (Musical Theatre)

There is no audition fee for any stage of our audition process (travel grants are available and are applied automatically, if you live in an eligible postcode).

Step 2: Preparing for your audition

We will email you the relevant audition guidelines to give you time to help you prepare yourself.

In the downloads below, you will find the audition guidelines for our UK-based in-person auditions for 2024 entry. If you are an overseas student, we will email you the relevant overseas audition guidelines (first stage self-tape guidelines, followed by a virtual recall audition or recall audition in an overseas venue if successful at the first stage).

Step 3: Attending an audition

We understand how nerve-wracking the prospect of auditioning can be, so please read your guidelines carefully. Being able to follow instructions is an important part of being a performer.

Remember we’re interested in finding out about you as an individual, so please try to relax, be yourself and enjoy the audition.

Step 4: Communicating our decision

We aim to let you know a decision within three working weeks of your audition. Unfortunately, it can take longer than this sometimes – please do not assume that you have been unsuccessful if you have not heard from us – it may be that we are still making decisions. If you have any concerns about the status of your application, you are welcome to contact our admissions team at admissions@lipa.ac.uk.

When we audition you, we may consider you for other Acting programmes (including our CertHE Foundation course), so it’s possible we might make you an offer for an alternative course to the one that you originally applied for.

Our decision will be final. Unfortunately, due to the high volume of applications we receive, if you are unsuccessful, we are unable to offer feedback. In many cases, a lack of success is due to the level of competition for places, rather than a specific personal weakness.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many courses can I apply to?

On your UCAS form, you can apply for up to five choices. You are welcome to apply for more than one degree course here but this will count as another one of your five choices. If you are an international student, you can apply directly to us for more than one course.

How much does it cost to apply via UCAS?

The fee for applying through UCAS for 2024 entry is £27.50. This is a one-off application fee and applicants can add five choices to their application.

Do I have to pay an audition fee?

There is no audition fee for this course. We offer a travel grant scheme for UK applicants who come from areas where participation in Higher Education is traditionally low. This is based on postcode data, so all eligible candidates, who we wish to invite to an audition will be automatically offered the travel grant (if applicable).

What happens if I miss the deadline for applying?

There is a high demand for places, so if you miss the deadline for your course, please contact our Admissions team at admissions@lipa.ac.uk. If you are an international student you are not bound by the UCAS deadline and we will be happy to consider your direct application after this date, please contact international@lipa.ac.uk for more information.

Can I defer entry?

We do not accept applications for deferred entry. However, there are exceptional circumstances when we will consider this, such as cases of compulsory military service for international students.

I have a learning difficulty or disability, will this affect my application?

We value diversity and will welcome your application. If you would like to request a reasonable adjustment as part of the audition/interview process, please contact the Admissions Manager to discuss this. Email admissions@lipa.ac.uk or call +44 (0)151 330 3084.
