Three Sound Technology graduates have been nominated for five Music Producers Guild (MPG) Awards.
Steph Marziano (2013) is up for Producer of the Year and Writer-Producer of the Year, Jonathan Gilmore (2012) is nominated for Breakthrough Producer, while Freddy Williams (2019) is shortlisted for Breakthrough Engineer. Freddy and Jonathan are also nominated for Album of the Year for their work on Futique by Biffy Clyro.
The Music Producers Guild is run and supported by producers, mixers, recording engineers, re-mixers and programmers who are passionate about all aspects of making and recording music. Now in its 18th year, the MPG Awards celebrate the best of UK music production talent working behind the scenes in the British music industry.
James Thorne, LIPA’s Head of Sound Technology, says: “It's fantastic to see Steph, Jon and Freddy recognised by the MPG Awards. Steph and Jon are becoming familiar names on the nominations list, which speaks to the consistency and impact of their work. For Freddy, it’s great to see him get the recognition his exciting career deserves.”

The ceremony takes place on 16 April at The Troxy in London, where LIPA’s former Head of Sound Technology, Jon Thornton, will receive the Special Recognition Award.
James says it's a fitting tribute. “The impact our Sound Technology graduates have on the music industry is reflected at the MPG Awards almost every year, so it feels right that Jon’s work is being recognised at the same ceremony. He established the course in 1996 and over the past 30 years has done an exceptional job of curating and continuously developing the course; shaping generations of producers, mixers and engineers.”
Jon stepped down as Head of Sound Technology in February but remains LIPA’s Director of the School of Creative Technologies, Design and Enterprise.
