A group of LIPA graduates are putting on their new play, We Weren't Innocent; We Were Girls at the White Bear Theatre in London from 16-20 July.
The play is written by Eleanor Boes, produced by Conor Donovan, directed by Freya Griffiths with a set designed by Dilys Childs. The play features Declan Adamson, Allie Aylott, Hannah Dootson, Lucy-Lou Gallivan, Liv Hodder, and Sophie Reisner. Eleanor, Conor, Freya, Allie, Hannah, Lucy-Lou, Liv and Sophie are all recent graduates from our BA Acting or BA Acting (Screen & Digital) programmes.
We caught up with Eleanor to learn more about the play.
Can you tell us a little about your new play?
We Weren’t Innocent; We Were Girls is about two teenage girls who kill their best friend, and an American true crime podcaster who comes to to their small British town three years later to cover the case. It’s an interrogation of postmodern true crime culture and an exploration of the tribulations of teenage girlhood.
How has LIPA's First Year Out Fund help the development of the play?
Funding from LIPA has been integral to this process of creating this play!
We’ve used the money for set, marketing, and refunding transit costs to rehearsal, which has been very important for a team composed entirely of early career artists.
Looking back at your time at LIPA, what was the most useful thing you were told?
From the time I arrived at LIPA, we were told there’s nothing stopping us from putting on our own work and making things happen for ourselves. Our company, Lucid Blue Stories, got the Edinburgh Fringe Fund from LIPA between second and third year. We started building producing skills that we could build on further with our Futureproof festival project in the third year, so that by the time we started thinking about this production, we had a really good idea about what to expect so we could be ambitious with our goals.
As for future projects…Of course we are always thinking about what is next! Go on and give our Instagram @lucidbluestories a follow to be the first to hear about it!
