Two Sound Technology graduates have won BAFTA Craft Awards for their work on Apple TV+’s Slow Horses.
Joe Beal (2012) and Abbie Shaw (2021) were part of Boom Post’s sound team who were winners of Best Sound: Fiction for Slow Horses. Joe was supervising sound editor and Abbie, dialogue editor.
Abbie says: “I really didn’t expect to win. I haven’t been in the industry very long, and it feels like I’ve only just left LIPA. Going to the ceremony and winning the award was exciting as well as rewarding and validating.”
For Joe it was his second BAFTA for Slow Horses with Boom Post winning the same category in 2024. He says: “Winning the BAFTA for a second year was a big shock. We were up against incredibly stiff competition, House of Dragon, True Detective and Baby Reindeer, all really successful shows with interesting soundtracks. So, we were really thrilled to win again. It’s great to be recognised by your peers and lovely for everyone on the team.” Joe had also won a BAFTA in 2020 for his work with Boom Post on Chernobyl (Sky)
Joe and Abbie are two of five Sound Technology graduates that work at Boom Post. We caught up with both of them after the ceremony.
